Yacht Delivery
Frequently Asked Questions
What type of boats do you deliver?
We can deliver both power a sailing vessels up to 24m, for private or commercial customers. We can also deliver for brokers and new boat owners.
What is your experience?
Tim has over 20 years commercial and private experience as a Master. This includes tour and cruise boats, charter boats and inshore and offshore sailing yachts and deliveries. Tim holds a Master Class 5, MED 3 certificate.
Who performs the delivery?
As an owner operator Tim will perform the deliveries with hand picked and competent crew.
Is insurance required?
Yes. We require that the owner carry insurance on the vessel to be delivered and cannot do the delivery without insurance. Our insurance only covers liability and injury of our captains and crews. We will need a copy of the cover page of your policy showing the effective dates, boat identification and the Protection and Indemnity (P&I) section of your policy showing that all crew members are covered by the policy.
Can I join the delivery?
Yes, of course and it is encouraged. This is the best time to learn about your vessel's capabilities and improve your own skills on the trip. Depending on the vessel and the route, we might require an additional mate or deckhand to round out the watch
What route will you take?
This depends on the type of vessel, time of year, weather conditions and owner preference. Our first concern is for the safety of the vessel and those aboard her.
What condition does the vessel need to be in?
In a word, seaworthy. This means clean fuel tanks, good sails, functional well running and maintained engine, adequate engine spares (i.e. fuel filters, belts, raw water pump and impellers, etc.). We have an extensive pre-departure checklist.
How do I pay for this service?
You pay a deposit in advance for all transportation, vessel expenses, supplies, fuel and provisioning. We will keep an accounting that details all expenses incurred during the voyage. We will submit a final bill upon completion of the delivery. A 50% deposit is required on departure with balance on arrival.
Am I charged for weather or mechanical delays?
This is the one element we cannot control although every effort will be made to choose a good weather window. If we feel it is not safe to continue, we will shelter until the weather improves. There is a minimum charge to cover expenses during weather delays. Small mechanical problems that can be fixed on route do not incure a charge, however any major repairs must be covered by the owner after being contacted.
Is a recent survey needed?
This would be ideal, but if a survey was done within the past two years we would like to have a copy. At the very least the vessel must be seaworthy and pass our comprehensive pre-departure checks
